Zidane was fined $6,000 US ,and will serve 3 days of community service working with children.

Materazzi was fined $4,000 US ,and will miss the Azzurri's first 2 matches of their EURO 2008 qualifying campaign.

Any opinions ?

Do you guys feel that FIFA handled the incident appropriately?

Why would Zidane comply? He is done with FIFA competition!!

He feels very bad that children all over the world witnessed his behaviour on the pitch.

Even a pasta basher like me thinks Materazzi got hosed on this one.

2 games ?

Harsh to say the least.

IMO (not being a homer), Materazzi's suspension is bull shit. He is basically being punished b/c ZZ acted out and hit him. I am 100% sure that words comparable to what he said go on in every game and guys aren't punished. Total cop out on FIFA's part.

That said, I don't give a crap since Nesta will be back by then and...

We all know this is " chump's change " to him

Zidane was fined $6,000 US ...

Taking the Golden Ball Award away from him, would've made more of an impact.

I think Paolo sums it up best:

“It’s scandalous to ban a player just for saying something,” stated Milan captain Paolo Maldini. “It’s the first time that it’s happened and it’s only because Materazzi is Italian and they want to justify the action of a great champion who made a mistake.”

In other words, FIFA was just sucking Zidane's dick.

If I knew I had a good chance at being banned a few games and fined I would still do what Materazzi did in provoking Zidane. Materazzi probably won't lose too much sleep with the ban and the fine but he will always remember the WC Championship that may have been helped by his actions.

When FIFA President Sepp Blatter didn't take part in the Final's Award Ceremony, that was a HUGE sign of discrimination. :happyass:

Do you remember his reasons.....he thought Johansson from UEFA should be present considering Italy was from Europe. What a fucking crock of shit.

Thanks, trip was fantastic. Loved the Italian Riviera but wasn't too fond of Milan. Reminded me of Philadelphia or NYC pre-Giuliani, kind of a dump really and was like 100 degrees and 100% humidity while we were there. That said, watching the Australia game in the Duomo square was a highlight of the trip.
